How to reach Leros
From Abroad
You need to reach one of the connection points mentioned below (Athens, Kos, Samos, Rhodes). Kos, Samos and Rhodes have the benefit frequent charter flights from northern Europe. If you can find a charter flight into Kos, or Samos it may turn out to be the cheapest alternative, but you have to make sure that the flight can make a reasonable connection to the ship or hydrofoil . From Athens
By Plane
Leros has a small airport with daily flights operated by Olympic Airlines connecting it daily to the Athens International airport and three times a week to Rhodes, Kos and Astypalea. Flight time from Athens is about 40 minutes. Early reservation of flight tickets is crucial since Olympic can book only 38 passengers on each flight. For scheduling details please contact your local travel agent, or check Olympic Airlines web site where you can book your tickets online. Alternatively you can find information at the Athens International Airport web site.
If all Leros flights are fully booked , you can also fly into one of the neighboring islands which are served by large jet aircraft and charter flights and then get to Leros via ship,catamaran or hydrofoil. Kos is best with a 1,5 hour hydrofoil ride or 2-2,5 hours voyage on the ferry. Samos will do it is a little bit farther away but is served only by hydrofoil (2,5 hours) and "Nissos Kalymnos" ferry boat, while Rhodes is for the really determined traveler since it is 4 hours away by catamaran. It may sound difficult but it is not too bad, because connections are fairly frequent. You can check OpenSeas to get an idea of schedules, but always cross-check with agents and port authorities.

By Ferry Boat
Two companies operate ferries connecting Athens with Leros. Overall schedules vary, therefore for up-to-date information it is best to call the shipping companies (Blue Star Ferries, ANEK Lines). You can also check the Greek Travel Pages or OpenSeas to get an idea of schedules, but always cross-check with agents and port authorities.

From Kos, Symi, Kalymnos, Patmos, Lipsi, Arki, Samos, Ikaria, Fourni, Rhodes or other islands of the Dodecanese
Generally there is one hydrofoil scheduled to connect to the morning flights from Athens plus a couple more ships and hydrofoils throughout the day depending on the island. The ships heading to Piraeus from Rhodes call Kos in the late afternoon/early evening and reach Leros by 20:00 to 22:00. For details your best bet are the local agents in Leros (see table below) since schedules vary by the month throughout the year. You should estimate 30 minutes to 1 hour travel time from Kos airport to the port, depending on whether you use a bus or a Taxi. The taxi cost should be less than 20 EUR (estimated)
